Everything about Sir Stuart Ntlathi defies belief and, in that way, he resembles many innovators and great scientists. Sir Stuart Ntlathi is an innovator/inventor (15-in-1 microwave oven, an electronic Vuvuzela and an auto shoe polisher) and the founder of the Stuart Ntlathi Science, Engineering & Technology Institute [SNSETinstitute].
Amongst his 54+ awards in science, engineering and technology he is largely celebrated for his signature award, the Johnnie Walker Nation’s Greatest Inventor. He has been working tirelessly for two decades to help promote science,
engineering and technology innovations to South Africa’s young generation. He is truly remarkable in his achievements; with this and a few signature inventions and innovations under his belt.
Undoubtedly the pride of the City of Matlosana/Klerksdorp, Sir Stuart Ntlathi is a visionary young fellow who started his institute when he saw a gap in his township community, Jouberton in Klerksdorp at the age of thirteen [13]. As with most disadvantaged areas in South Africa, scientists, engineers, technologists etc. are few and far between.
In order to address the skills gap, he took a view that young people should lead the debate and create opportunities for each other, instead of waiting for adults to “rescue” them. He relishes being a leader and an inspiration to other youths. Ntlathi’s institute helps to create and strengthen the public understanding of science, engineering and technology in communities. The institute has grown rapidly with over 30 000 youths participating in various programmes by 2015.
Sir Stuart Ntlathi thinks as an owl does, in total response to being alive. He is naturally blessed with the gift of youth, education and innovation development and he has genuine scientific experience and high intelligence to develop his heaven-sent talent. As innovation runs in his veins, so does a strong awareness of our times and place, and the people who, like him, give expression to these. He generously brings new life to the work of other upcoming innovators by setting it to his talent, adding passion, warmth and tenderness of his innovative mind. The 15 in 1 Microwave, known as the MarvelWave Cuisine Series is the peak of his achievements, a wonderful range of originality, creativity, inventiveness and innovation celebrating creativity was at the heart of the struggle for success.
